California State Specific Science Safety Compliance
Science labs answer to thousands of rules, and most of them apply in every state. This free module covers only the California science lab safety rules and requirements: the ones Californians need to pay attention to, each tied to the exact California law or regulation that sets it. It is the home of the California State Specific Science Safety Compliance Requirements Sheet and teaches the sheet rule by rule.
What a learner will be able to do
- Say who California’s job safety rules and Education Code rules cover
- Describe what a California Injury and Illness Prevention Program contains, and when a serious staff injury is reported
- Check a fume hood, a biosafety cabinet and an eyewash station against California’s own numbers
- Decide who must wear eye protection in a California lab
- Apply California’s rules on exposure limits, hazardous materials plans, expired chemicals, mercury, Proposition 65 and hazardous waste
- Apply California’s rules on the fire code, dissection, live animals and new labs, and check an organization against the sheet
Nine lessons following the sheet’s ten numbered rules, four pairs of California scenarios, a task that checks a real organization against the sheet, a 10-question quiz and the Science Safety Certificate.
