Hang this poster beside the designated waste area in the laboratory or prep room.
What is on the poster
From the day it becomes waste to the day a qualified vendor collects it.
Do
- Keep waste containers closed except when adding waste.
- Store it in a designated, restricted-access area of the lab.
- Put liquid waste in secondary containment: a pan or tray.
- Store wastes by compatibility.
- Use only approved safety cans for flammable waste.
- Tag every waste not in its original container.
- Not sure? Ask your Chemical Hygiene Officer.
Don't
- Mix incompatible chemicals, or store them near each other.
- Pour chemicals down a sink, or put them in the trash.
- Treat chemical waste in any way.
- Let volatile chemicals evaporate.
- Leave waste containers in hallways or public areas.
- Move a container with crystals or solids forming in or on it.
Dried or crystallized picric acid can explode. Do not move the bottle: call your Chemical Hygiene Officer or emergency personnel.
Waste leaves only with a qualified vendor, to an authorized facility, on a manifest the district keeps. Never in a staff car.
