Chemical in the Eye: Eyewash Steps Poster

Hang this poster beside your eyewash station, so the steps are in front of whoever needs them, in the ten seconds that count.

What is on the poster

Chemical in the eye

1. Go now: reach the eyewash within 10 seconds. Straight to the nearest plumbed, hands-free eyewash station. Have someone guide you.
2. Push the hands-free control once. The tepid water stays on by itself. A squeeze bottle is only for the first seconds on the way there.
3. Hold your eyelids open with your fingers. Both eyes in the streams. Let the water rinse without stopping. Do not rub.
4. Flush for at least 15 minutes. Longer for a corrosive: keep rinsing until the poison center or a doctor says stop.
5. Call for help: 9-1-1, and Poison Help 1-800-222-1222. Someone else calls while you keep rinsing.
6. Get medical attention after flushing. If the irritation continues, rinse again. Where you can, see a physician experienced with chemical eye exposures.

Splash on skin or clothing: contaminated clothing off at once, then under the safety shower for at least 15 minutes.
