Hang this poster beside the eyewash station and the safety shower, where the first minute is spent.
What is on the poster
Read Section 4 of the Safety Data Sheet before the chemical is used, so you know what to do.
- In the eye: to the eyewash at once. Lukewarm, gently flowing water, eyelids held open, 15 to 20 minutes. Contact lenses out if easy, then keep rinsing.
- On the skin: clothing off, then water. All contaminated clothing, shoes and jewelry off at once. Under the safety shower or lukewarm water for at least 15 minutes.
- Rescuer: protect yourself first. Chemical-protective gloves, and clothing for a skin case, before you help. Call Poison Help: 1-800-222-1222.
Then follow the hazard
| Hazard | Eye | Skin |
|---|---|---|
| Irritant | Rinse several minutes. Still irritated: medical advice. | Plenty of water and mild soap. Rash: medical advice. |
| Corrosive | Rinse and call a poison center or doctor at once. Keep rinsing until told to stop; strong alkalis longest. | Rinse at once, keep rinsing, and call a poison center or doctor. |
| Solid or dust | Do not rub. Let the eye water and flush it out. Never pick it out. | Wash off with plenty of water. |
| Flammable liquid | Rinse as for every chemical. | Clothing off at once and away from any ignition source; rinse the skin. |
| Water-reactive or pyrophoric | Follow the SDS: it may say to brush the chemical off first. | Brush off loose particles, then cool water or wet bandages. |
| Cryogenic liquid | Do not rub. Medical attention at once. | Thaw with lukewarm water, do not rub, medical attention at once. |
