Hang this poster beside the gas outlets and near the master gas shut-off.
What is on the poster
A loose hose, a valve left open, a flame that went out while the gas kept flowing.
- Act at once. Treat a gas alarm as an emergency, even if no one smells gas.
- Put out every flame. Every open flame and anything burning.
- Switch nothing. No lights, appliances, telephones or mobile phones.
- Get everyone out. Leave the area at once, and get everyone out of it.
- Call from a safe place. Once safely away, call 9-1-1, then the gas supplier.
- Stay out. Until the gas professional or emergency responders say it is safe.
- Leave the gas off. A gas professional checks the system before it is turned back on.
Know where the master gas shut-off is before any burner is lit, and who uses it under the school's emergency procedure.
