What is on the poster
A black symbol in a red diamond on the label and the Safety Data Sheet. It shows the kind of hazard before a word is read.
| Pictogram | What it marks |
|---|---|
| Health Hazard | Cancer, breathing sensitizer, reproductive or organ damage over time, aspiration hazard |
| Flame | Flammables, pyrophorics, self-heating, gives off flammable gas with water, self-reactives, organic peroxides |
| Exclamation Mark | Skin or eye irritant, skin sensitizer, harmful if swallowed or inhaled, narcotic, breathing irritant |
| Gas Cylinder | Gases under pressure |
| Corrosion | Skin burns, serious eye damage, corrosive to metals |
| Exploding Bomb | Explosives, self-reactives, organic peroxides |
| Flame Over Circle | Oxidizers: make other materials burn hotter and longer |
| Skull and Crossbones | Acute toxicity: fatal or toxic on short exposure |
| Environment | Toxic to aquatic life. Not required by OSHA |
The pictogram is one of six label elements. The signal word, Danger or Warning, says how severe; Section 2 of the Safety Data Sheet says exactly what.
Each pictogram on the poster is drawn by Science Safety: a black symbol in a red diamond.
