What is on the poster
Every pass
- Guard over the cutterhead, free to return. The guard must cover the head behind the fence and swing back over the cutterhead after each pass (29 CFR 1910.213(j)).
- Sharp, balanced knives on a round cutterhead. OSHA requires a cylindrical cutterhead with knives projecting no more than 1/8 inch (29 CFR 1910.213(j)(1)).
- Use hold-down push blocks. Two-handed push blocks keep your hands well away from the cutterhead.
- Shallow cuts only. No more than 1/16 inch per pass, and 1/32 inch on hardwoods.
- No short, narrow, or thin stock. Do not joint pieces shorter than 12 inches, narrower than 3/4 inch, or thinner than 1/4 inch.
- Stop before you clear chips. Shut off the power and wait for the cutterhead to stop. Use a stick or brush, never your hand.
Never pass your hands over the cutterhead.
