Hang this poster beside your miter saw, so the rules are in front of whoever is about to make a cut.
What is on the poster
Every cut
- Guard over the blade, working. OSHA requires a guard over the blade above the table that adjusts itself to the thickness of the stock.
- Saw fixed at waist height. Attach it firmly to a workbench or rigid stand. Never operate it on the ground.
- Stock flat against the fence. Never cut freehand. Hold the stock against the fence with your other hand, out of the blade path.
- No pieces shorter than 8 inches. Do not cut pieces smaller than 8 inches (20 cm) long.
- Full speed first, then wait for the guard. Let the motor reach full speed before cutting, and keep your hand on the handle until the lower guard covers the blade.
- Unplug before any adjustment. Adjust or change the blade only with the power off and the saw stopped.
Never reach around or behind the saw blade.
