Hang this poster beside your belt and disc sander, so the rules are in front of whoever is about to sand.
What is on the poster
Every time you sand
- Guards and dust hood in place. OSHA requires the disk enclosed except above the table, and a guard at every point where the belt runs onto a pulley.
- Work rest close and locked. Set the work rest to the minimum clearance from the belt or disc, and secure it.
- Sand on the side moving down. On a disc sander, work only on the side turning down toward the table, so the stock is pressed onto it.
- Small pieces in a jig. Hold small or thin stock in a jig or holding device. Never sand it by hand.
- Dust collection on, protection on. Run the exhaust. Wear eye protection that meets ANSI/ISEA Z87.1, hearing protection and, where required, a respirator.
- Unplug before any change. Turn off and unplug before changing a belt or disc or adjusting the work rest.
No gloves, loose sleeves or jewelry near the belt or disc.
