This is a step-by-step tutorial for writing your own Chemical Hygiene Plan: the written program OSHA’s Laboratory Standard requires wherever employees use hazardous chemicals in a laboratory (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1450(e)(1)). It is for the people who write and sign the plan in education (school districts, private and independent schools, colleges and universities) and in industry (research, testing, quality control and manufacturing laboratories): Chemical Hygiene Officers, laboratory managers and safety staff, science department chairs and administrators.
How the course works
- Nine lessons, in the order a plan is built. You start with the rules that apply to your workplace and a count of what is on your shelves, and finish with the plan assembled, checked against the standard and ready to sign.
- One workbook that becomes your plan. A 29-page Word workbook in nine steps. Each lesson ends by showing you which pages to fill in.
- A worked example all the way through. Sample High School, an invented school, fills in every step. The standard, the workbook and the templates work the same way for a company or university laboratory.
- Templates, tips and tricks. Nine published templates from state agencies, school districts and universities, compared side by side, with the traps they carry.
There is no quiz. The course is a guide to building your plan, not a test.
