Michigan State Specific Science Safety Compliance

Michigan State Specific Science Safety Compliance

Science labs answer to thousands of rules, and most of them apply in every state. This free module covers only the Michigan science lab safety rules and requirements: the ones Michiganders need to pay attention to, each tied to the exact Michigan law or rule that sets it. It is the home of the Michigan State Specific Science Safety Compliance Requirements Sheet and teaches the sheet rule by rule.

What a learner will be able to do

• Say which Michigan rules cover public and private schools, and who covers their staff
• Apply Michigan’s personal protective devices law to a lab, shop or field site, visitors included
• Explain how MIOSHA and its Part 431 reach a school lab, and what the eye and face protection rule requires
• Meet Michigan’s hazard communication additions: the posted signs, the organized sheets, the training and the notices
• Schedule the fire, tornado and lockdown drills, post them, and name the construction, fire safety and building code rules a school building follows
• Check an organization against the sheet’s yearly checklist

Nine lessons following the sheet’s five numbered rules, four pairs of Michigan scenarios, a task that checks a real organization against the sheet, a 10-question quiz and the Science Safety Certificate.
