Chemical Hygiene Officer and Environmental Hygiene Officer Responsibilities

This module is designed for K-12 and higher education educators as well as industry professionals aiming to become certified Chemical Hygiene Officers or Environmental Hygiene Officers. Participants will explore the essential roles, responsibilities, and regulatory standards for both positions. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, learners will understand the key differences between chemical hygiene and environmental hygiene, enhancing safety and compliance in educational and industrial settings.

This module sets out what a Chemical Hygiene Officer and an Environmental Hygiene Officer are responsible for, in education (school districts, private and independent schools, colleges and universities) and in industry (research, testing, quality control and manufacturing laboratories). For each duty it names the rule that sets it, who carries it, and the record that proves it was done.

It teaches the duties themselves. How to carry out each task is taught in the modules of the Chemical Hygiene Officer Pathway.

Module Objectives

  • Name the duties OSHA gives a Chemical Hygiene Officer, and the rule behind each.

  • Say what the instructor, supervisor, employer or district does beside the officer.
